Tomoko Kawachi

Tomoko Kawachi points impressive pictures with a lyrical overtone. Lightness and drama come together in the work. Her motifs include a Japanese house boat, flowers, furniture, a sleigh, which are presented using a vehement pictorial language. The gestures simultaneously express search and confidence.
These works are very personal, they address intimate matters without revealing their true nature. Kawachi's most recent works show her interest in transfiguration of motifs and original image. A person becomes a tree, a slit became a shield, a car tire became a sleigh blade. It is the very act of painting that brings Kawachi the discoveries and surprises that she is looking for.
